Hi Everyone.

I am new and looking forward to collaborating with you or at least having a supportive relationship. My inventing interests include home organizing, the green industry, and book writing (life organizing, children's stories and comedy) and singing/song writing. It is too lonely to do alone so if any of you share my interests and desire write to me or call me.  i can easily work with you on your inventions if I like them.

I am the mother of a 12 year old son and the wife of an Oakland Public School Primary Grade Teacher. We live in EL Cerrito. I am a CHADD Facilitator and run a support group for parents of children diagnosed with AD/HD.

I hail from Boston and I am a jeweler and was a math teacher, sold mutual funds, did computer programming, was a mail clerk and carrier, traveled quite a bit, ran a thrift shop for the American Cancer Society and mostly been an entrepreneur having only worked for others for brief periods of time.

In case you haven't got it already I have lots of energy and am a well rounded person with tons of ideas and inner drive.

The very best to you,

Carol Katz

I have finished the book and reviewed the cd's.  I have recently submitted my graphics to three different companies with non-disclosure agreements to see if they are interested.  One concern I am characters are created as environmental characters.  When creating my stuffed animals, do I search for a green company to create them.

Here is a background of my creation.

Years ago I wrote and self-published a children's book.

Then I started bringing my characters to life by creating graphics for t-shirts, sneakers, bottled water, coffee and other items.

I just couldn't get it out of my mind that maybe I have created characters that could be licensed "Disney environmental style character".

Each character has it's own unique environmental background, A Carebear feeling.

I also would like to start an adopt a program for my characters similar to Cabbage Patch Kids and give a portion to the animal rescue group.

I also am interested in creating a kids club that can be an intereactive site to allow kids who join the to participate.

Since I don't know much about any of the process, I started to research and buy books.

Now I am redoing my book in color and submitting it to publishers.  In the meantime, I am pursuing other items with my characters such as a boardgame, stuffed animals.

It would be sooo much easier if it were one idea.  I just need to find a company who sees the "green" potential and the children's opportunites in my project.

I am now in the process of contacting some Chinese manufacturers for quotes. I am getting nervous about this even though they have agreed to sign a  non disclosure agreement. To keep the number of  companies that I actually give my drawings to down,  I am asking some companies for quotes on items they already manufacture. I figure this way I can get a feel for how they communicate and what they charge. Still this part of the process does make me nervous. My product isnt exactly brain surgery and can be easily altered and resold as a new idea. I guess these feelings are par for the course. Still cant wait until this part of the process is over.

BTW I read (on Startup Nation) that Alibaba is a good source of manufacturers for all sorts of products and decided to check it out. There are thousands of companies listed . One thing I love about the site is that once you register with one company you can contact any of the others without having to repeat the whole registration process all over again. Check it out..and if anyone has used this site before please give us some feedback on your experience.

Thanks

Linda 781

I am a new wantabe inventor.  I  have read the Carey Formla and will post my thoughts on same next time around.

Today I just want to give Barbara a big thank you.

I had been questioning myself and my product over the last two days and thanks to the site I was able to connect with another member who gave me some guidance and valadated my process.

Feeling better but still a bit overwhelmed, today I began to read classes 1 thru 4.  Although I have read about lots of successful people giving back,  I was stunned to find that Barbara had actually offered to personally speak to members that were entering crucial stages of their process. This truly  amazed me. I mean how many extremely busy, wildly successful people can you get on the phone for advice on anything!  It's hard enough to get some doctors on the phone for more than two minutes at a time, and they are being paid!  Talk about generosity of spirit.  Thank you Barbara!

(And all the other members who so freely share information and advice).

Hello everyone,

Last week's Season 2 premier was the same format, they showed alot of wacky inventors and inventions. This is for ratings, to attract viewers, the show does get more serious in subsequent episodes. I just hope they don't keep repeating those that are rejected, over and over again..

Anyhow, I'll be watching again tonight. Any thoughts and comments about the show, the new judges, etc...? Feel free to share... -Wade

I have attempted several times to bring a creation to life.  When my patent went nowhere and then, due to lack of money I had to let it expire with out renewal, I felt at a loss.

Reading Babara's book was eye opening and inspiring.  It gave me hope that I can do this.  The idea that I have in process now has been with me as it is for 7 years.  I am amazed that it is not on the market.  I know that it has huge marketability and potential.

My biggest fear is that with my work at the University and at the Counseling agency, I will not be able to add one more thing.

Today I had an offer from a man that I was only asking for a quote to manufacture.  He wanted to manufacture, with the caveat that he be a equity partner.  I cringe at that as he is claim jumping and trying to ride on my idea.  I do not worry that he will not make money, but it should be from the manufacture, not my idea.  I have a long time friend that is a marketing guide here.  I talked with him and he said, "when are you going to let go long enough to make something?"  He believes that if I let this producer front the project and I cut in for even 10%, then I am 10% further ahead and can learn all I can as we do this.  At some level I want to believe it and just do that.  On a grander, I feel that is a sell out.  Why should I give up my intellectual property's profit to this or any guy just because I have not walked the line.

I am in the deepest hope that this new information, and the CD library (please get here fast) will give me what I need to to make my profit.

You don't have to be a finalist of American Inventor in order to be successful. At that time, all I had was a prototype of the Disc Eraser, and advanced to the top 30 before getting cut by Doug Hall. I'm convinced in my dealings with "expert" entrepreneurs as well as marketers, that nobody understands products better than the inventor, and therefore encourage self-starters to take a chance and venture their own products.

I went to the book store to pick up a few books to read over a quiet weekend.  I was waking by the isle where The Carey Formula was featured.  I liked the cover and picked it up to browse through it.  I could not put it down.  I remembered a note book I had put away quite a few years ago..this notebook holds a number of ideas I have had over the years.  I took it out as I began to read Barbara's book.  I finished the book in less than 2 days and have been completely motivated and excited since then..that was two 1/2 weeks ago.  I just purchased the CD's and subscribed to the newsletter.  I was starting to get a little bit stuck and finally decided to purchase the Cd's in order to keep my process moving forward.

I am looking forward to this entire process.  (I purchased a new notebook to continue logging all of my ideas).

If you know a petite woman, or if you are one, then you understand, and probably have experience the frustrations not being able to find proper fitting cloths.

Especially pants.

My goal is to provide petite women with more clothing options so they can dress like the professional, accomplished, and stylish women they are by designing contemporary clothing that is tailored to their height.

When the outfit you've been eyeing fits you on the first try, it's a pretty great feeling. Unfortunately, this happens so rarely for us women who are 5'2" and under.  OK, so I'm 5'2" and a half.  Still...

Things are about to change.

So keep your eyes open, because 5 ft 2 inTM is coming soon to the retailers near you.

Dear Family and Friends:
When I first started out in business, I was as competitive as anyone could be. I was led to believe sales were a kind of game, so you had to keep score. After all, what was the point if you couldn’t measure wins and losses, measure your performance against that of others?

As an entrepreneur, I fell into that same trap early on. I defined my success against the standards set by others, by society at large. In time, I realized that when we use those definitions we are also defining the limiting boundaries of our efforts.

Success and failure can’t be measured in dollars and cents. It can be measured in units of lessons learned, attempts made, new trails blazed, relationships built and strengthened, and fortitude tempered.

Too strong of a focus on traditional definitions of success can narrow our vision. We become like the thoroughbred, bl
